Will be told in several small parts, all of them snapshots of different parts of her life so far. At least that's the plan...

Ryleen's tale Empty Re: Ryleen's tale

Post  Ryleen Sun May 25, 2008 1:40 am

About twelve years ago or so, a hot summer day.

A group of troll children are noisly playing a game with a leather ball. Away from the others, in the shade of a tree, a girl is playing alone.

She has a doll with yarn hair in the same bright blue colour as her own, but it sits beside her forgotten right now. Instead she is drawing pictures and complicated patterns in the dirt with a stick, singing to herself while doing so.

After a while, the other children tire of their game. Some leave to go get water, thirsty after an afternoon in the heat of the sun. The remaining children, led by an older boy, approaches the girl under the tree.

As they approach, the girl pretends not to hear them and only when they're close enough to be stepping on the edge of her drawing she looks up at them.

At first she is suspicious, but when they ask her to come play with them by the water her face brightens in a happy smile and she gets to her feet. She grabs the doll, and the drawing is forgotten.

One of the other girls asks about her doll, and gets told that it was her birthday present. When she asks to hold it, the girl unwittingly hands it over.

When the girl wants it back, she gets laughed at. The other girl, who is a bit taller, holds it out of reach, and throws it to the older boy.

The girl repeatedly tells him to give it back, getting more and more upset. She is soon crying, but the boy just mockingly mimics her pleas to get the doll back and keeps holding it high out of reach.

But even this game soon bores him, and he loudly states that the doll needs to take a swim. A powerful throw later, and the doll lands on one of the sharp rocks way out in the water.

The girl is furious now and yells at the boy to bring her doll back, and still he does nothing but laughs at her and tells her to swim out and get it herself.

”You know I can't swim! Get her back!”

The girls expression changes from angry to horrified as she sees how the waves threathen the wash the doll away.

The boy and the other children turns around to leave the beach and go back to the village. Once again, the girl asks them to stop, and give her doll back. But this time her voice is different. She is not yelling anymore, not crying. Instead her voice is calm, filled to the brim with barely withheld fury.

The children turn around again as they hear the strange change in her voice. As they look at her, the air around her is shimmering with heat, not only from the sun and hot sand. She walks up to the boy and lifts her hand to hit him. Such a small girl can not have much strength yet and would probably not hurt him. But where her hand touches his shirt, sparks flie and flames immediately lick the dry cloth.

The children's laughter quickly turns into frightened screams, most of them flee and the boy is panicking and trying to put out the flames. He soon ends up in the water, killing the flames in the cool water, and then he runs crying and yelling back to the village.

Alone on the beach, the girls stands in the sand where the waves lick her feet. She looks at the lonely doll as a wave at last manages to pull it back into the ocean. Then she thoughtfully looks at her hand. Slowly she starts to walk back to the village, imagining the scoldings she will get for what she did to the boy.

Tempting offer, but no. She's way beyond wanting revenge, wich will hopefully get obvious in the following parts of her story. Something that would be interesting though, would be if someone was interested in having their character remembering/having been involved in those parts of her background. I'm sure there are other trolls about her age (ca 20) that would remember the odd girl that always stayed on her own and didn't play with the other kids. ^_^

Ryleen's tale Empty Re: Ryleen's tale

Post  Ryleen Wed Jun 04, 2008 1:39 pm

Ryleen sighed and sat down on a rock beside the path.

She was heading towards the Valley of Trials. Her teacher in Sen'Jin had at last thought her ready to go there for the final stages of her schooling. A rite of passage so to say. Most teens got sent there sooner or later, and when they came back they were considered adults.

But she really didn't want to go. She had heard stories about how hard the training was there, all the difficult trials she'd have to go through. And all of it together with her "friends" who were the same age as her.

They rarely spoke to her, but never passed up a chance to make life hard for her if they knew they could get away from it. She knew they were afraid of her, of what she could do. But they knew she couldn't do anything without getting into serious trouble about misusing her powers. Again.

But this.. Sent out alone with them in the desert to complete their training. No, she didn't want that.

She had made everything in her power to delay this journey. Everyone else had left at sunrise. But she had managed to both oversleep and forget to pack her bag the night before, so by now the sun was almost in zenith and the heat was unbearable. She looked around for shade, thinking that since she already was so late, she could find somewhere to rest until the worst midday heat was over.

Nothing. Excpet for the silouette of some rocks in the distance to the north. She shrugged and got to her feet, wandering of the path and heading towards the rocks and their promise of shade.

Not much later she lay down in the shade and drank some water she had managed to conjure for herself. It had a strange taste and was everything but cool, she hadn't mastered that spell yet. But it was better tha nothing. She also managed to create a misshaped piece of something that barely could pass as bread, but it was edible enough to pass for lunch.

As she looked up at the cloudless sky, watching a bird circling lazily above, she wondered if anyone missed her yet. Probably not. The trainers in the valley didn't know who or how many would come, and her "friends" were probably all to happy that she wasn't there. She could get lost and never show up at all, and no one would know.

No one would know...

This was a reassuring thought, rather than scary. She suddenly realised, she was free. She could do whatever she wanted, and no one was here to stop her. She got to her feet, completely forgetting about the sun and the heat, and slung her bag over her shoulder. When she now walked off, it was not to southwest towards the Valley of Trials, instead she went north heading for the road that would take her to Orgrimmar.
