Trinda... warrior turned scholar

Post  Trinda on Thu Jan 28, 2010 12:04 pm

I do not wish to join you, as I cannot. I am a semi-retired player originally from Thorium Brotherhood (US Servers). However, I am still very much a Troll enthusiast. Discovering new Troll lore is the sole reason I play anymore, much to the chagrin of my guildmates.

Some of you, if you were around during my prime (2006-2007) may have even seen some of my stuff linked on the Euro server forums (before the massive forum change... it's all lost now but the link remains: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=17542099&sid=1 ). It was something that always made me fairly proud... to see people halfway across the world borrowing from my research. Of course, it was definitely a two-way street. I often borrowed liberally from the Euro forums.

I came across your site yesterday and figured I would say hello. After reviewing your forum (top to bottom), I feel that it is here more than any other Troll site, that I may finally have found true kindred spirits in the love of Troll lore. I kindly ask to join your discussions regarding the subject.

I cannot promise to contribute often as you folks seem to have covered a great deal already, but if I see a discussion I can hop in on (if you'll permit me, of course), I'd love to participate.

One thing I haven't noticed in your discussions (it may well be there and I could have missed it) is this easily passed over tidbit from Zangarmarsh. I will put it out there, just in case.
No self-respecting Darkspear troll engages in bird worship. Their spirits are weak, capricious, and best left to the Amani.

Even if you don't allow me onto your forums, I truly wish you all the best and hope that you keep your fiery passion for the lore burning.

Thank you so much for your interest. We are indeed quite keen debaters when it comes to troll lore and any fresh perspectives are always welcome.

While we do keep some areas of the forum srictly for guild members, you are more than welcome to have a mooch around the rest and contribute as and when you wish Smile

Good to know there are more like minds across the water and look forward to seeing you round here Very Happy

Excellent! I that case, I will give a little more information on myself.
--
I was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago (both islands at different parts of my life).
My parents and one side of grandparents were born and raised there too. The other side of grandparents is Jamaican. Even though I am currently in Canada, I still live and breathe island culture and am part of the Caribbean Community up here. In fact, my grandmother was an obeah woman (while our Trolls practice voodoo/vodoun, and not obeah, it still has found a way into the ingame 'language' as a Troll word).

I feel that this contributed in a pretty big way to my love of Trolls. They are, after all, partly influenced by island cultures in addition to the many other influences. They may not be exactly like me, but they definitely were very easy for me to roleplay since there are many cultural similarities (accent, religion, location - all island).

My Troll created the first (and last) all-Troll guild on Thorium Brotherhood. I took my cues from other all-Troll guilds like Boomshaka Tribe (Bleeding Hollow - US), Tooska Tribe (Maelstrom - US) and The Darkspear (Scarlet Crusade - US). It lasted two and a half years, first as Frostmane Tribe and then Coldblood Blitz Clan. Unfortunately, the unguilded Troll pool was pretty small due to several factors and without a chance to really expand, we eventually fell out of the spotlight. If I ever have the time to play as I once did, I may well revive it, but for now the clan gathers dust. Smile

I've found much of what you've said fascinating in regards to trolls but also from what appears to be a vast amount of knowledge anyway. I'd love to know what career you have/had, as I'm nosey and love gathering information Razz

I'm sorry! I hadn't seen that there was a reply until now! I've had turns in the hotel industry (front desk clerk), door to door sales (water heaters), retail (stationery and baby toys), garbage collection (or waste management, as my mother told her friends), and a short stint as a "roadie".

I am currently in the employ of Bath and Body Works.

That was not a list I was expecting to see, though they explain your gift of communication (or are rather jobs I imagine you being exceptioonal at). Who were you a roadie to? *hopes it's someone she's heard of so that she can pretend she's cool*

I put in quotes mainly because I never went on the road with them. I did lift heavy junk, help plug stuff in at the domestic gigs (read: anywhere on the island) and occasionally even subbed in as security but I am not actually a roadie and have not gone to the US or the UK with the bands. I did get paid, so I count them as jobs, but I don't know anything technical and I have not traveled out of country with them (friends being nice to me, basically). Though if they ever make it up to me, they have guaranteed me free tickets if I come backstage and harass them.

Kes the Band (genre: mostly soca, calypso and rock: classic and pop, usually over an island beat, to be more precise). They will be around for a while and are going places. Kes and his brothers are smart cookies and know what it takes to keep fresh without compromising themselves.

Tripped and Falling (genre: alternative/punk rock). They have now been defunct for 2-4 years, my memory fails me. The lifestyle was no longer for them (they went to the UK to try to 'make it') and they came back home and went to their back up professions. They never broke out HUGE in the UK, but they did get a record deal.
