Djinja's story.

Djinja and his twin sister Zaneeta were born to Trolls in the eastern swamps .Their mother and father sometimes made money as guides for hunters and herbalists, but mostly they made a living by fishing for pearls.
At the end of each rainy season the family would get in their canoe and make the dangerous journey to the trading post by the road at the edge of the great swamp. They would exchange the pearls they had found for some bolts of cloth, a sack of seed taters and a newborn pig. This was the time that all tithes for the MarshWarden were paid to the Goblin tax gatherers, and any who could not pay had their hut pulled down and were declared outlaw.
It was usually good weather and as they had no money to spend on somewhere to stay they always camped under the big shady trees with the other poor families from the marsh. It was the best part of the year, the time for drinking mojo. The time for barter and apprenticeships and marriage, and it ended with a festival to the Troll God Zanza.

Djinja was a good son to his parents and worked hard around their one room hut, seeing to the tater patch and the pig in it's wooden cage. The hut stood on stilts on a tiny hummock of land that would usually stay dry for most of the year. It contained not much more than a rug, a big cook pot and a battered old chest.
He liked to make simple jewellery from pretty stones and bits of bone and tusk. His sister helped their mother to make each of the family a suit of clothes every year, and he was always at his most comfortable wearing his earth coloured pants and harness. besides a warm cloak and a straw hat this was the only clothing any of them had.
His sister had the gift of second sight and was believed to be favoured of Zanza. She had found a beautiful stone deep in the wetlands which she called her " seeing stone", it had a hole in it and when she looked through the stone she would sometimes have visions of things to come. She could move through the dangerous mire and the wild animals seemed not to see her, she called this trick " fading".

Their mother died of swamp fever when they were eight years old . The little family held together under the wise leadership of their father, but times were always hard. When Djinja was thirteen years old a rich and powerful Troll Mage came to their hut in a canoe and asked their fathers help in finding a very rare and dangerous spider so that he could gather it's silk for some secret purpose.
He was so pleased with their father that he paid more than had been agreed to, and also he gave a silver goblet to Zaneeta and a dagger to Djinja. It was Djinja's finest possession, a true wavey blade Troll dagger, and of better quality than his fathers copper knife. That year the family ate well and could afford to replace the old iron cookpot and buy two pigs, one to eat and another to fatten for sale.

But good times can always give over to bad and in the year of Djinja's fifteenth birthday tater blight came to the swamps, and then bluetongue and the pig died and there was hunger in the hut.
There was a mighty old crocolisk who had lived in their section of the marshes for maybe a hundred years, his back was two axe handles broad and his skin was as hard as iron. His name was Ole'Seth and all the Trolls of the swamps feared him. As Djinja's father paddled his canoe home from a long day fishing the massive croc tipped the canoe over and killed him.
Now Djinja and Zaneeta were alone in the hut and thought of what they should do. His sister stoked the fire and drank a concotion of secret herbs and mojo, she covered her entire body and hair in ash. Using charcoal she made a black downward pointing triangle over each eye and drew a black line from each shoulder to wrist and from each hip to ankle. She danced and chanted around the glowing embers, ghoulish white in the night, and looked in the seeing stone to ask the God Zanza for guidance.

In the morning Zaneeta explained to Djinja that Zanza had promised to help them kill Ole'Seth if in return Zaneeta would one day dedicate her life to the service of Zanza at his temple on Yojamba Isle. She gathered more herbs and mixed paints and made a terrifying portrait of Zanza on their father's shield and gave it to Djinja. Then she made him swear to help her hunt the croc. So with his sister paddling , Djinja crouched in the prow of the canoe with his fathers painted shield in one hand and a spear in the other, and together they went to hunt the beast.
After paddling to the deepest , thickest part of the swamp they disturbed Ole'Seth in his lair. As soon as it saw them the terrible croc whirled around and swam straight for them and as the massive jaws opened to engulf him Djinja flung the spear into the middle of the gaping throat. Ole'Seth screamed and thrashed but his time was come and eventually he died and the brother and sister were able to skin him of his massive pelt and return to the hut.
They packed their belongings, which didn't take long for they were few, and set off in the canoe for the trading post. There they sold the skin for what they thought was a huge amount of money, but of course the wily Goblin merchants paid only a fraction of the true value.
Still, Djinja and Zaneeta were content and set off on the long long journey to Durotar to enlist in the Valley Of Trials.

After many weary battles in the Trials they were deemed fit to fight for the Horde and allowed to make their way in the world.
Now was the time for Zaneeta to make good her promise to Zanza, and Djinja escorted her to Stranglethorn Vale and thence to Yojumba Isle. She was accepted for training as a Priestess Servitor, and Djinja thought the Temple the grandest place he had ever seen.
When it was time to say good bye she gave him a small leather bag and when he opened it a young black kingsnake slithered out. She explained that the snake would stay with him and that through it Zaneeta would still be able to watch over him and care for him. Djinja had long been in awe of his sister's priestly prowess and willingly accepted the gift.

As he made his way in the world he found that his feet led him on the path of the warrior, also he travelled to Silvermoon city and learned the craft of jewel making. Whilst there he fell in love with a Blood Elf girl, but the snake bit her and drove her away. The following year he thought to marry the daughter of an Orc peasant in the Barrens but again the snake drove the girl away.

When he visited his sister in Yojamba she explained to him that as only Trolls worship the Loa Zanza, so He would not tolerate the brother of one of His Servitors marrying any but a Troll. So Djinja vowed loyalty at the temple to the race of Trolls and swore to guild only with his own kind for ever.

And now he goes about his business in Azeroth. He has fine armour and crafts fine jewels and hopes one day to own a mighty riding raptor, and maybe to find his Lady Troll.
But also he always keeps by him his simple swamp clothes, and his first dagger and his fathers spear, and the shield that his sister painted. And always the snake follows and protects him.

Great story Djinja. Very nicely written, in my opinion. And well done also to your snake for biting the blood elf! Glad to hear that.
