The guide is finished!
Download it here: http://www.aldrionaart.com/BTaC-1.pdf
((I'll removing old and now irrelevant posts from the thread to clean it up. And possibly make a sticky out of it, if you think the guide is good enough ))

question on troll writing
Could we have some clarification on Troll writing? In your guide it seems that the use of a written Troll language was something of the past. This would be in sync with this: http://heritageofzuljin.moonfruit.com/accent/4525181035 Still, this could be described a bit clearer. Do you see writing as a skill that was lost in time?

Re: The troll rp guide
As i understand it, writing is not exactly a lost skill, but rather an extremely underused one. Trolls don't often write books (they don't write books at all tbh, which bugs Ros personally ^_^) so there isn't much reason to learn the written language. Those associated with the Zandalar tribe most likely still know how to write though.Mahda wrote:Do you see writing as a skill that was lost in time?
Correct me if i'm wrong.

Re: The troll rp guide
Trolls do have a written language, since they make tablets. But they do not have the kind of culture that records all knowledge. Instead, written word is often related to religion. Tablets are made in honour of the gods, to tell about the deeds of great heroes and things like that. Cutting text into stone is slow and tedious, and is only done for very special occassions. All other knowledge is kept in memory and shared through speech, and because of this I doubt all trolls know how to read. Most likely, only priests and witch doctors and such people take the time to learn that. Or at least, that's how it was up until when the Darkspears joined the Horde.

Exactly. Having a written culture does not mean that each and every member of that culture can write. Think of the Middle Ages - there were quite many codexes, but only a few priests and noblemen could read and write, there was almost no education among the commoners.
The same way, a Zandalari priest can write and read the tablets, but an average headhunter cannot. Lore is passed on verbally, and not written.
I have never seen renderings of troll writing, but I imagine it similar to hieroglyphs - as in, images that are connected to the meaning of the word; perhaps a troll who can't read still could try and guess what the pictures mean.

Congratulations Ryleen on a really impressive piece of work. The content and layout are totally professional, it would look lovely if it was available as a book and I for one would buy it. Well done

Re: The troll rp guide
Ry, not sure if you've seen it, but you might be intrested in this comment that was posted in the stickied thread on the rp-forum
I've working on to update the german trollguide, well this would be even bigger an lightning some more aspects of the troll culture....yes..it's a bunch of things to do. Your guide is not bad...I like it...it's clean, short, nice look and with the impossible informations to know.
But in a few things i don't agree..or got some improvement suggestion :
-At the list of loa are Aysan, Agweh an Ezrili...in my mind they'r loa from the voodoo-culture in real life. I know that Samedi, Legba, Lokou, Ogoun and so on are loa from the voodoo-culture to, but blizzard have gave them another mention. The last three loa are not named in the lore.
-Shamans are the best class to play a witchdoctor, because of the fact that they're able to set totems...and since the last patch...<3!!!..i love my trollstyled totems, now they look like the totems the witchdoctors used in WCIII. Also the shaman can played as a shadowhunter, the elite of the jungletrolls, especailly by the darkspears....they can do hex enemys into frogs, got the healing wave and use meleeweapons, instead the fel-gleve.
-There are another RPG-class wich is more fit the priest/mage, it's the hexer.
-Headhunters are also playable by rouges, hunters or warriors.
-Wilderness stalker its another RPG class wich can played by hunters, rouges...and if the trolldruid is implemented they're also a fitting class for this.

Re: The troll rp guide
The thing about Aysan, Agweh and Ezili... indeed, they are not mentioned in Warcraft lore. It was Zanick who incorporated them from real life Voodoo into his roleplay.
Re: The troll rp guide
Yeah, I used to loa from our forum. I know they aren't official ones. But on the other hand, I do have a disclaimer where I point out that I make things up at some places.
Re: The troll rp guide
Ah, for some reason i was convinced i'd seen Ezili, at least, mentioned in Lore...but there you go ;P
Anyway, just thought i'd mention it in case you felt like making a reply
