Rituals of Blood Empty Rituals of Blood

Post  Euphrati Fri Aug 06, 2010 5:14 pm

As we now is out of the Horde i can put up an thread where the Rituals of Blood will be posted. Twisted Evil
In most of these rituals blood is consumed, for honor, strength or brotherhood. Not all loas accept that these rituals are made in their name. Some loas only accept some of the rituals, the nature in the Ritual show whose loas its for.

Rituals of Blood Empty Re: Rituals of Blood

(edit in name of Blood Ritual)*

Is given to those warring loas, an ritual of strength and honor.

Ritual is performed on an shrine or on top of an skull. It can be performed by anyone in war, an soldiers ritual.

Sharp dagger (Ritual Blade) and an fresh heart of an worthy foe is needed.

The one performing the ritual are not allowed to carry any weapons, except ritual blade. The weapons are to be thrusted into the grown on each opposite side of the shrine.
As the heart is taken forward, its told who it is from. And pay your honor to who you offer it to. The blade is held in both hands and as the soldier bows down he pierces the heart in an single strike. (if performed on an skull the blade shall pierce the heart and top of skull). As the blood flows out of heart and into the ground (or if shrine has an bowl to collect blood, to its bottom). An offering of blood is given to yer loa too fullfilling the ritual. Blade is pulled up from the heart and is wiped clean in the hand or in the mouth. If blade is wiped clean of the blood in the hand then blood is drank from the hand.
By the words (or similar, in battle all cant be memorized): The blood of the warrior is in me, his strength is in me. An son/daughter of you great **Hethiss** (or who its offered to). Its now in you too. I share the blood, strength and honor of the kill to you honored Hethiss (or who its for)*.
If heart stays still at its spot, only blood flowing out of it, the offering has been accepted. (If heart falls off skull it isnt accepted).

Rituals of Blood Empty Re: Rituals of Blood

I wonder which Loa demand blood sacrifice from their worshippers. I can imagine Hakkar or Ula-tek demanding blood from both their worshippers and their enemies, Ogoun or Shirvallah demanding only the blood of the enemies, and Lukou loathing any form of blood rituals.

perhaps not they demand it, its an canniballistic ritual (done by an Vilebranch). Would be guessing many of the loa, those who are even little warring to accept this one. To offer blood, the liquid of life, is an greater sacrifice, something ya not are given every day. Except for Hakkar and those that only accept blood.

Not all rituals will be those of battle. Some will represent thats good in life, like family.

Rituals of Blood Empty Re: Rituals of Blood

hmm, while i agree that most Loa would certainly accept blood sacrifices (whether that includes cannibalism or not), i think most of them would be likely to be performed as preparations for either combat or a hunt and maybe for protection i guess.

however, while i can see the primal Loa all accepting a blood sacrifice for greater prowess in battle or luck in the hunt etc but i don't really see it as appropriate to make such a sacrifice to e.g. Hir'eek or Bethekk for greater knowledge or mastery of voodoo...but maybe that's just me Wink

that said, I do like the idea of coming up with some more rituals like this so please continue Smile

I agree to some degree that Beth'ekk would not relay rescuer blood sacrifice for more understanding of Voodoo, but it would to some point make sense non the less. Sacrifices is about "paying" for a favour, so the sacrifice should be in proposition as well as linked to the favour you wish fore. Also it have to be a sacrifice for you, some thing of great importance or some work behind it.
In Beth'ekks case would I imagine a sacrifice could involve giving some thing to her children ... the panthers. That would need to be meat or blood, thus include a blood sacrifice. Some loa might also (Beth'ekk for one) that the sacrifice itself should learn the worshiper some thing it lack ... maybe actoly learn them the very thing they ask for. Imo is rituals and sacrifice is to a large degree symbolism and educational for its participants more then any thing.
