Chabat's recovery

Post  Vypra on Wed Jul 30, 2008 1:17 pm

I am of course speaking of her mental state. She has been, as those of you who have been around her will know, even more timid and nervous since her capture by Tivak. She is so terrified that she is now afraid of the dark and is reluctant to anywhere other than thunder bluff or Aldor rise in shattrath by herself.

In order to have her recover from this i plan to do 2 things. Firstly, i'll arrange with Ryleen to help with studying Tivak's soul shard and secondly, i would like to her have a ritual for a tattoo.

The tattoo will be in the nature of a protective talisman and that's where you guys come in. I was thinking it would be the symbol of one of the Loa perhaps...but which one? I'd like to decide this Ic'ly in game with the help of a couple of the guild. I'll also need somebody to be the one that conducts the ritual and actually does the tattoooing...so who wants to volunteer? Smile

All suggestions on how we do this will be gratefully received.

This doesn't sound like Jimar's field, so I can't help unfortunatley. More of a Shaman thing if you ask me...
Gando / Gul / other guild shamans?

Chabat's Tattoo

Post  Zanick on Thu Jul 31, 2008 12:40 am

Well, I'm not an expert on gods or loa, but maybe Chabat should consider Hir'eek, the bat goddess, as her talisman.

Hir'eek is a Primal God who is known to be the guardian of great knowledge. This matches Chabat's own aspirations for study and learning. Hir'eek is also known to be a protector of the troll tribes, so she would be ideal as a guardian talisman to give Chabat strength and keep her safe. Indeed, Hir'eek is called Guardian of the Night. The night, when your guard is down, is perhaps the time when Chabat is most fearful of being abducted again.

What's more, a bat tattoo would look really good. There are some great examples of representations of the bat goddess. There are bat kites (guardian talismans called rakzaka) to be found hanging in huts in Shadowprey village, Revantusk village and in Zabra'jin. In Swamprat Post there is also a great carved totem post of Hir'eek. The front side wears a painted shield mask, but the rear shows the carved bat head.

If not Hir'eek, then perhaps loa Lukou or loa Ezili would be good choices. (See the 'Gods and Loa' thread in the Lorekeepin' section for a bit more information.)

Just a few thoughts. Hope this helps.

Thanks Zan, i think Hir'eek's Bat symbol would perfect for her

...even kinda fits with her name Wink

okay, so now i just need volunteers to a) put this idea to chabat and b) carry out the ritual.

Re: Chabat's recovery

Now, Vypra has spoken to chabat about tattoos and why trolls have them, but (other than a slightly cheeky suggestion) she didn't really say that Chabat should get one just yet (i think most trolls 1st one would be done at a coming of age ceremony at their 17th year where they would choose their totem Loa and have a tattoo of that Loa's symbol [just my opinion there btw Wink ] ) but under the circumstances Vypra would advocate it.

So...if any interested parties could come to the Broken Keel tonight, i can have that conversation with them as Vypra ( i don't fancy having to keep swapping characters and have this chat with myself too! Razz).
As for the ritual itself, from the stuff i've found on tribal tattoo rituals, it would be done with perhaps only a select few present (although there aren't always -that- many of us online at a time so that shouldn't be a problem Wink ) and an animal would be sacrificed. i thought then we could have the blood dripped into a bowl of water and the shape that it made would show what Loa would be best for chabat (this is a traditional scrying ritual) who will see the shape of a bat Smile

Then all that is left is the tattooing itself which, according to witnesses of demontrations by tribesmen and women using traditional methods, can actually be done in a surprisingly short amount of time.
It will only be a small design on her right wrist so i think we can get away with saying it took around half an hour (although it can take less than that in game Wink ).

I'd be happy to perform the ritual, and to the tattooing. That is, unless Star, or Gando want to do it.

Thanks Gulzayne. I don't think Star would IC'ly be able to conduct the ritual as she was raised by tauren adn knows little of troll customs. I do think she might be interested in being involved somehow but we'll see how it goes.

If you can make it to the Keel tomorrow and bring up the subject with Vypra, I'll will suggest this to you then. After that we can see if/how gando and Star can be a part of it Smile

Star would most certainly want to be involved but as Vypra said She wouldn't know the first about that the ritual even excited.

I would suggest Ula-Tek instead, attack is the best defense.

Well...

Re: Chabat's recovery

Post  Vypra on Fri Aug 15, 2008 12:28 pm

Vypra and Gulzayne finally managed to have a chat about this the other night (thanks again Gul Smile ) and i'm now going to have Vyp and chabat have a little chat. Basically, Vyp and Gul discussed the situation and decided that chabat's main problem now was getting her confidence back. Vyp suggested tattoo ritual and that chabat would need to choose patron Loa. Gul agreed suggested that Hir'eek would be ideal. He emphasised how important it was for chabat to make the right choice and Vyp agreed to guide her to it.

Now..my question is, does anybody want to help with the choice?

I can do this several ways.

1) I can have chabat and Vyp go off and carry out some kind of ritual and then chabat simply tells the Heritage she has chosen at the meeting on monday. 2) i can have vyp advise chabat then have somebody else there for a ritual to 'choose' her patron, or 3) I can have Vyp advise chabat then the chosing can be part of the tattoo ritual.

The first is the easiest as i can have all that part done and written as a diary entry over the weekend.
The second would be nice for Star (and this can work for anybody else that feels they would like to do it) to choose a patron loa to look after her and her baby now Oyho is gone.
The 3rd is going to mean the whole tattoo ritual is more involved and (while its the one i want to do) its the one where i'm most reliant on other people being available.

if i don't hear from anybody by this evening i'm going ahead with no.1 on saturday... but i will be doing it in the pools of Vision on the off chance that somebody does want to join in at the last moment!

Well I said attack is the best defense!

Also, I used to be a follower of Hakkar, ofc I need to give him some free-advertising.

Re: Chabat's recovery

alrighty - everything is now set for Chabat to have her tattoo ritual. I want this to be a guild event so i'll ned everybody to let me know when is the best time and day for us to gather.

I would also like to get Star to have her tattoo at the same time so we need to find time for her to go throught the ritual to choose her patron Loa before we do it.

for the tattoo ritual, i think we should go out to one of the echo islands and do it the ruins there for a bit of extra effect.

we would all gather, chabat and Star would undergo some preparations helped by other members, then they would go somewhere a little apart with Gulzayne for the actual tattooing, while the rest prepare a feast of somekind (you guys could either discuss how you got your own tattoos or tell stories or whatever while this goes on Smile ) Then, we come back and have a nice little party cheers

if anybody else has any ideas please add them in and we can hopefully get a really good event and an ongoing guild tradition started here Smile

Sounds great. Gulzayne will tell Star about the ritual on the meeting on Monday. So after that. I will be gone from the 12th to the 17th of September so I suggest that the ritual will be at the 19th or the 20th.
