Remembering Snicka Empty Remembering Snicka

Post  Ryleen Tue Sep 29, 2009 2:11 pm

According to our member list, Snicka has been absent for eleven months now. I thought that once that turns into twelve, it's time to hold a memorial.

We may not have a grave to go to, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate the memory of our warlord. Smile

And, of course, it's a chance for a great event! It would be nice to invite other people as well, as I'm sure Snicka had many friends outside of the Heritage as well.

So, what ideas do people have on how we could make this a great celebration?

well, i may not be able to attend, but i can try and drum up some ideas for the celebration.

I'm taking some of this stuff from the Day of the Dead rituals which we could also celebrate at Hallow's end if we wanted, to remember other friends and family that have died in the past year. The Old Aztec festival was a month long celebration (those guys really took their rituals seriously Wink ) but we kinda have other things to do...like fighting the Alliance and the scourge and whatever else Blizzard throws at us so we only get 2 weeks Wink

Anyway...to get back on track, traditionally, an altar would be made to the deceased and decorated with Flowers, Skulls, and their favorite food and drink and perhaps some personal items of theirs. The Guests would then have a picnic and get drunk (to allow them to communicate better with the spirit of course Wink ) and tell stories or humorous anecdotes of the dead person's deeds.

As we're not sure whether Snicka is actually dead and certainly don't have a body to bury, the altar would of course simply be dedicated to his spirit and we could tell tales of how he lead us all to rediscovering the Teachings of the Zandalari. If we decide to deify him (name him as an ancestor spirit), we simply need to attribute some of his special traits that we would call on in future in times. We probably wouldn't want to go around declaring Snicka as a Loa...but he's certainly worthy of becoming the Patron spirit of the Guild Wink

*sigh* Guys, I feel touched. It is really moving that you want to hold a memorial for Snicka, and I am happy that he made such a big impression on your characters.
As Vypra pointed out, it is not confirmed that Snicka is dead (and no, I will not tell you), however, holding a memorial for him is still honourable.
I'd gladly become your patron spirit or an ancestor (although you can question the latter term being rightful, as Snicka was young and passed not much ago), however becoming a Loa sounds a bit too much, although very flattering. Smile
Aztec Day of the Dead rituals are really fun, completely the opposite of the solemn European funerals (google it for pictures, that will get you into the mood), and very fitting into troll culture. It's actually a very good idea to remember our late ones that way. Smile

I've been thinking the same thing, to have Snicka included among our ancestors, despite no one (as far as I am aware..) in the Heritage actually being a relative to him. Loa is of course a bit much, I don't think anyone would claim that Snicka's spirit would have as much power as Shirvalla of Lukou or any of the others. At least not yet, we can check again in a few generations. Smile But remember that the line between loas and ancestors and other spirits is fairly blurred. A loa is merely a more powerful spirit.

As for the celebration, I'll go google day of the dead once I'm not in class any more.

Where would we hold our celebration, now that we're not bound by a grave or other final resting place? Yojamba seems like a good option, of course.. But variation is nice. Any other ideas?

I've scouted round STV this evening and apart from Yojamba the only really places we could use are the graveyards outside the gurubashi arena or the Bal'lal ruins Razz

but...to get back to the Day of the dead celebration...look what i noticed this evening:

So it's finally the Day of the Dead.
If we're gonna do some kind of celebration to honour Snicka, tomorrow's meeting will be the perfect opportunity.

I would love to attend if such a thing happens, the Sen'Jin Village Graveyard would be very suiting for it in my opinion.

Tonight seems to be a bit short notice. Especially for inviting people from outside the guild. Also, I'm ill and not up for a overly long meeting. Sad

You can make it next week too, it doesn't necessarily be on the actual Day of the Dead. Smile

I may as well add here that the "I'm ill" part of my last post decided to get ugly. I'm currently stuck in bed and really really ill.. dunno when I'll be back online to play.
