Traitor! Wait... What? Empty Traitor! Wait... What?

Ryleen sat close to the roaring fire, with her warm cloak tightly wrapped around her. With some magic encouragement, the fire burned stronger and brighter than it ever did normally. She was reading one of her books by the firelight while idly considering wether it was worth the suffering of the cold or if she should just give up and go home to Kalimdor again. Around her, the people in Agmar's Hammer were preparing for the night. She hadn't been here for a long time, and only planned to stay for the night.

After some time, she slammed the book shut. The sun had set completely now and it was too dark to read. She got to her feet and wandered over towards the mailbox. She had written a long letter to Gando earlier today. He hadn't traveled to Northrend yet, and she missed his company. There were a lot of things happening here that troubled her, she needed someone to talk to.

But when she came to the mailbox, it was closed and locked. After she had stared at it for a few moments, a nearby guard informed her that no letter were to be sent without passing by the overlord first. She shrugged a little at this, wondering why he would want all that extra work, and walked over to the main hall where he could probably be found.

As expected, overlord Agmar sat at his throne in the main hall. An armoured orc had just finished talking to him, bowed before the overlord and left. She walked up to the orc at the throne and made a symbolical bow before speaking.
"Sorry to be a bother, I just wanted to send a letter."
She waved a little with the sealed envelope, only to have the orc snatch it out of her hand.
"All mail goes through me first."
He quickly ripped the envelope open, picking out the text covered pages. She was about to protest, not at all liking the idea of the orc reading what she had written, but a very unfriendly glance from him stopped her.

As the orc slowly read through the letter, his expression became less and less happy. She tried to remember exactly what she had written, it seemed the overlord found things in it he did not approve of. There were some comments that he would probably precieve as highly negative towards the war... And some about the madness of certain orcs' obsession with death and glory... This wasn't going to end well.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Only half an hour later, and the not ending well part had been thoroughly proven already. The overlord had been very upset, shouting things about traitors everywhere and how no one could be trusted. There had been guards rushing in to capture her, and to protect the overlord from the "traitor".

She hadn't fought them, of course. Firstly, because she really wasn't a traitor, at least she didn't think she was. And secondly, there hade been many guards. She would have ended up hurt, and still captured. Better then to go quietly with them and wait for a better opportunity to escape, or a chance to explain that she wasn't a traitor at all.

So far, there hadn't been neither chances nor opportunities. They had confiscated most of her belongings, and she was currently locked inside one of their towers. The metal building wasn't heated except for a few small fires on the bottom floor. The top floor where she was held was freezing. Her bag, containing her dinner among other things, was currently in the hands of some orc downstairs. This was quickly becoming a very bad evening.

For a moment, she entertained the thought of blasting her way out of the place as soon as night fell and the guards weren't as attentive. Tempting as it was in her current bad mood, she realised the foolishness of doing such a thing. Then she would really be in trouble. So far, she was sure she could talk her way out of things, as long as the one she talked to wasn't that paranoid orc.

Luckily, there were another option. She reached inside her robe, fishing out a rune of teleportation from a hidden pocket. She had put it there in case she'd ever loose her bag and need to get away from somewhere. This, however, was not how she had imagined that she might loose it. She got to her feet and slowly started to cast the spell that would take her to Dalaran. Her fingers were stiff from the cold by now, but with some effort she managed to cast the spell properly.

A few moments later, she felt the mild, warm air of Dalaran and could hear the sounds of the city around her. She started walking towards the Sunreaver's Sanctuary. There would be food and a roaring fire at the Filthy Animal, just what she needed now. Traitor to the Horde... That's something she never expected to be called. But with some luck, he wouldn't go about to tell others about it... Or do something incredibly foolish like put a price on her head. Surely, the letter hadn't been that bad. Had it?

((I love it when you explain your real life absence from the game - in this case, your three-day ban - with some RP story. I enjoy doing it myself too.))

((Actually, this story isn't at all related to that. Smile She wasn't held very long by the orcs, and their plan was probably to execute her the next morning. It was more the character Agmar that inspired him, when I realised how horribly bad Ry would get along with him, and how bad her attitude in general matches that of the people in the horde army. Also, this quest: http://thottbot.com/q12085

So far, I'm not sure if I'll build on to the traitor storyline or not. I'll leave it open for now. ))

((There's been a few other story snippets between this one and my first, read them here: http://wearelegion.forumakers.com/our-stories-f2/traitor-wait-what-t666.htm ))

Ryleen didn't look down at the landscape rushing by beneath the wind rider. Instead, she was thinking back at the conversation she had with the orc before leaving. He had found her, and caught her. She had benn sure she would be brought to Agmar's Hammer again, and surely subjected to some horrible punishment for her "treason" against the Horde. But he had changed his mind. Some of his words were still very clear in her memory.

"Agmar would see his own mother as a traitor if it gave him some gain for it, troll"

He had turned out to dislike Agmar almost as much as she did, and only thanks to that, he was willing to help her. She repeated his instructions to herself, to make sure nothing was forgotten.

"You need to speak to an orc who is ranked higher than Agmar, and Saurfang is perfect for it. He is one of the few orcs who will listen to your story. You will need to seek him out. Get a letter from him to allow you a trial by arms. It's an old orcish custom where two people fight for a verdict of a crime.

You will also ask him to have this matter sorted out for you by the Warsong Blades, and deliver your challenge to Speatus himself. He will most likely select Krusg to be his champion to fight on his behalf. Your champion is your problem. However, with Saurfangs seal, you can pick any orc of a lesser rank.

Fly to Warsong Hold and speak to Saurfang. He should hear you out."

She was just about to nervously repat the instructions to herself again, but at that moment the wind rider arrived at Warsong Hold. She stepped off, and braced herself before walking inside, a painful knot of nervousness in her stomach. This had gone way out of hand, much more than she had ever expected.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryleen left Warsong Hold, a folded piece of parchment securely hidden in a pocket of her robe. At first, Saurfang had shood her away, claiming he didn't have time to listen to stories. Luckily, she had recalled the other orc's last words to her. He had told her what to say if the High Overlord didn't want to listen to her. Nervously, she had repeated "Grommash was once in my position", and it had worked. Still not really having time for her, Saurfang had listened, and then written a short letter which he handed to her.

So far, everything had gone as the other orc had told her it would. Now she was supposed to find Speatus, and deliver the challenge.

The challenge...

She had seen the orc named Krusg fight before, when the Greywolf Tribe had challenged the Warsong Blades. And she had seen him win. Where would she find someone strong and skilled enough to beat him? What was she to do if she didn't? Her head spinning with worries, she teleported away from the Borean Tundra, back to her temporary home in Thunder Bluff.

Traitor! Wait... What? Empty Re: Traitor! Wait... What?

Post  Ryleen Mon Jan 26, 2009 12:52 pm

The bright light of dawn shone in through the opening of the hut, hitting the face of the sleeping troll. It did not take long before it, together with the sounds of morning birds, woke her up. She sat up and rubbed her eyes, as always forgetting her wounded hand and flinching as she felt the stubs that would hopefully grow back into working fingers.

A short while later, she stepped outside. She smiled and looked up at the blue sky, it would be a nice day. Then the memory of last nights events hit her and she felt her insides twist into a painful knot of nervousity. The meeting with the Blades... Not planned and everything but pleasant. Remembering how Speatus had instantly shifted from his friendly greeting to coldly ordering her arrest made her shudder for a moment. She had to make sure to remember that, and be careful around him in the future. Obviously, he wasn't quite as friendly as he might seem.

And the duel... She had been terrified when he had claimed that she would have to fight the duel herself, and was not allowed a champion. If that had been the case, she might as well have given up directly. But the death knight had helped her.. again. She was allowed a day to find herself a champion, and the duel would be tonight.

As she went back into the hut to stir life into the fire and make breakfast she thought of the orcish knight again. That would be the third time he had helped her out, and she still had no idea why. It was hardly because he liked her, he seemed everything but friendly. But why? What kind of ulteriour motive would compel him to help her again and again? She would just have to wait and see what happened. Now, she needed to focus on finding herself a champion.

And prepare what to do if she failed. She stood up and walked over to the other side of the hut, rummaging through a bag until she found her pouch of spell components. She picked out two grey runestones, carefully choosing one large and one small. If she failed the duel, she would be arrested and they would bring her north, to hand her over to Agmar. She wasn't planning to let that happen. They would take her bag, and most probably search her pockets. With that in mind, she placed the larger runestone in one of the robe's pockets, where such a search would reveal it. They would find it, and think they had disarmed her. She smiled to herself, weighing the smaller stone in her hand. This had to work. Carefully she slipped the small runestone under the bandages of her wounded hand, until it rested safely in the pocket that fomed in the hollow of her palm. The bandages weren't really needed anymore, she simply wore them to hide her malformed, still growing fingers. But no one knew that, and they were not very likely to search there. This would work even if they decided to tie her hands, since she was quite literary holding the stone, no matter what happened.

She grinned to herself, pleased with her little plan. It was not the optimal thing to do, but at least she was sure that tonight would not end with her being shipped off to Overlord Agmar.

Well.. She'll be in a lot of trouble. But she'll find a way out of it.

I've even seen a few suitable hidingplaces for her already Wink
