Recent Patch Event...

Post  Razeal on Thu Oct 14, 2010 5:07 pm

So seeing as I'm looking at 3-4 days maybe even a week of downloadin' this shit...Having been told by people who have completed the intial download that there is infact more downloads after this beasty 5gb download lol!

So then, whats everyone else up to then? I'm assuming some of you have already downloaded it, others of you may have fallen into a "cold turkey" like dribbling mass in the corner somewhere. Personally, I'm thankful for this unexpected break...I really think I was starting to go off the game completly this time off will give me the oppotunity to really consider if I want to keep playing or not!

So folks...Whats going on now that we've been given the honor of being able to appreciate the real world again Very Happy

Just a shame its raining outside...Well...Back to drawing I go!

MORE downloads?
After getting ~25% daily, then suddenly losing 1 GB of downloaded contents, I have to suffer ANOTHER downloads?
Good job, Blizzard. You've just gained a declared hater.

From what he told me, this is the biggest download of them all but there are like another 3-4 downloads after this. Took him near on 20 hours to download it all.

I'm at 54% right now, but basically ground to a hault because I'm using the net as well while it's doing it. I also found that plugging it in with a network cable seems to make it go faster!

Razeal remains both correct, and incorrect.

You do have to download. But it's patching using the new patching system. You remain able to play the game with a bit of wait time for models in some places, and the rest of the patch downloads 'subtly' in the background, barely affecting your online gaming at all. Or you can let it all download from the launcher and not get any time wasted at all.

It's more healthy to people who get a very short time to actually play, since less time is wasted patching up. But people are still able to leave long patches patching over night.

(( Reading the new post... no idea, maybe your friend wasn't fully patched up anyway?

Well I only gave a vague overview of what he said anyway, it was more or less what you said.

Well I'm 57% through the first download so still at a posistion where I'm off enjoying the real world. 'Tis taking awhile but ah well I@m enjoying it Very Happy

It's strange that people have to download so much... The background downloader has been up for weeks for me, I already had my 5gb when patch day came around. (though installing it took more than two hours...)

Yeah I don't often have my background downloader on...Infact I never have it on, so come major patch days like this...I'm graced with a good chance to work on my tattoo Smile

I had to delete and reinstall my WoW because of lack of diskspace. Who the hell creates 5.19 GB patches?

Because of the amount of stuff in it it's gonna be big!
Mines currently at 67% been running all day, but I've been using the net during the day so it's slowed it down a bit.
I'm prediciting 80ish in the morning, so should be done tomorrow afternoon some time.

In the meantime...Plenty more time to work on tattoo! I'm loving this time off lol!

Yep it really is a giant patch. Re-texture of all locations water. Lots of new interface things. Every single item in the game re-stated. New talent system for every class [Therefore the 1 - 80 levelling system has been re-written for new talent point allocation]. Removal/Change of certain features of the game (like Chill of the Throne being removed from ICC). New spells and other weirdness.

So yeah ... huge.

Currently at 75% it reckons another 18-34 hours...It sure does like being vague lol!
So for those that are already playing it, any good? Is it worth the wait or can I gracfully bow out from WoW and not feel like I'm missing anything?

60%, predicting about 26 to 40 hours. Transfer terribly lagged by my brother and his idiotic Youtube movies and Tibia working 24/7. DL rate about 2 to 20 kbps. I hate downloading patches!
How exactly does new talent system work?

If its the one from the Beta version...It's a completely reworked talent tree system.

Their more of less forcing you to dual spec, as you pretty much have to fill an entire tree before you were ALLOWED to put points in other trees...That is however, assuming it's the same one from the Beta test Smile

It is the same one, yes. They're pretty much removing the possibility of mixed specs, you pick one tree and stick to it. There's also fewer points than there used to be, the trees themselves are redesigned and you get special bonuses depending on what tree you chose.

Also: New water is preeettyyyy! I love you I'm tempted to go splash in ever puddle I find just because I like looking at it. But I guess the amusement will go away as I get used to it. Had to set down my graphics yet another notch to keep from lagging though. Sad

And... background downloader ftw Wink

I am afraid what will happen to my PC, which lagged down while on anything more than minimal details, and at every 25-man dungeon I have 1 to 4 FPS during any fight. Time for upgrade. My processor has over 10 years now...
Anyway - 68%, so I should be ready to roll since tomorrow evening, hopefully earlier.

Well you will then come in little fine just when most have learned their new spells and abilities from talents. Been in several unsuccessful groups since new stuff takes time to learn. Think i got about 3 new shots and 4 new pet abilities, lost some too, and i specced the same.
I have found playing rogue more fun after patch than before though.

When done downloading, dont expect to go out playing directly, youll have to spend a couple of hours finding right buttons. shift+P dont go to pets/mounts any more, very annoying.
