Spirit beasts pet
So I have been mulling a few ideas over the background for my spirit beast hunter pet (epeenor!), and one idea I had was that she was somehow the spirit of a tiger companion Meegon had a strong bond with, so much so that her spirit was strong enough to remain with him even after death.
However, I know this is a bit of an iffy area for trolls (or maybe it is just my poor understanding). I know there are rituals to be completed when a comrade dies, to ensure the spirit reaches it's destination without the interference of malevolant spirits. I would imagine a hunter would do the same for a pet they have shared a strong bond with.
The undead are ofc something to be shunned and destroyed wherever possible, but what about a spirit animal fighting still at their masters side? Is this just as big of a no-no, or even making any sense from a troll lore perspective?

Re: Spirit beasts pet
From my pov, in case of undeath the spirit is trapped inside a dead body and thus suffers greatly. If the spirit willingly remains in this world (and is strong enough to do so) then I see no problem here.

I agree with Ros. I'm not sure an animal spirit would be sent to the afterlife. Is there a loa to welcome them there? It would seem more likely that the go back to nature, if that makes any sense.
Re: Spirit beasts pet
Animal spirits probably return to their patron loa. Tigers to Kimbul, bears to Nalorakk, panthers to Bethekk, mammoths to Mam'toth etc. These animals are often referred to as the children of these loa, so it would make sense that they return to their parents/creators after their death, or become one with them. Trolls, on the other hand, pass to the realm of Sam'di.
As Ros said, a spirit remaining in the world at his own will is not really considered undead. I can imagine an animal loving its master so much that it defends him even after its death. Perhaps the hunter can keep a part of the beast's body and summon the spirit through it (considering that in troll religion body parts are actually the spirit's link to the material world).
