These days too many trolls forget the old ways. The Darkspears in particular, who have had to change their ways to survive and have been forced into contact with other races, are in most danger of losing their ancient ways.

The spirits, the Loa, are patient, and they move at the pace of Loa, not the living. Faith is needed. But for many trolls the faith is weak, especially after the orcs came, bending Vol'Jin into a debt of honour. There are those that still revere the Loa, and thank them ...

Although many trolls forgot the art of writing by now, we did have a written culture. In every troll ruin you can find tablets with ancient writing on them. I wondered how the ancient trolls have written, and I think this is really close to it.

The pictures are from an Aztec caledar, and symbolize the days of the Aztec month (as far as I understand, they had 20-day months). As troll culture is heavily based on Aztec culture, I can pretty much imagine a similar image-writing.

This may also ...

Anyone who spends a lot of time in Orgrimmar these days will hear a lot of strong language. Some of it is bad language and some of it is completely incomprehensible. This is not surprising amongst the savage orcs, and of course, most Forsaken were human when they were alive, and you know how much humans swear!

Like many trolls, Zanick spent a lot of time in Orgrimmar when she was growing up. As most of us do, she now speaks Orcish fairly well. But she has never got used to orcish swear words. ...

This came up in /o last night, and we decided to move it to a forum thread. The main topic would be: What kind of punishment would be suitable for HoS for killing one of our members like they did? But I though we may as well discuss proper punishments for lesser crimes as well, for future reference if nothing else.

My thoughts is that troll punishment probably are physical often, and in the eyes of other races very cruel. In a human society, getting your hand or ear cut off is something ...

This one coccured to me recently when Jimar killed a snake infront of Jhaga ( a Hethiss worshipper) at the Keel and Jhaga, ICly, took it rather badly.

How do the trolls deal with the fact that they now tend to sacrifice animals to the Loa rather than sentient beings when the primal Loa are represented by animals themselves?

Would they all be happy to sacrifice any animal that isn't related to their own chosen Loa?

A few recent incidents where we have been asked to take part in pvp have highlighted an intresting attitude to making war from some of our trolls.

Traditionally, troll warfare was geurilla in style. Attacking from ambush, using traps and poisoned weapons were all part of how the trolls made war. However, it seems our association with the Orcs may be changing our young warriors. These tactics are often seen as cowardly and dishonourable despite the fact that both the Darkspear and the Zandalari ...

I have this pet project of making a beginner's guide to troll rp. This is part of it, a tool for when you're trying to figure out your background story. Long ago, in the days when the Darkspears were beset by enemies on every side and the old chief was dead, the tribal elders gathered to choose a new leader.

After the important notices were given out, the meeting last night turned to a discussion of how the trolls and Orcs relate to the spirits.

The trolls have always been of the opinion that the spirit is linked to the body and that some of the practices of their fellow horde members destroy that link.

The trolls also beleive that these spirits are as likely to cause harm as to give help and guidance and so offerings (usually of blood and flesh) would be expected to appease them before ...

- Foreword -

At the age of thirteen winters or so, when the Kul'Tiras navy attacked the Echo Isles and the coast of Durotar, I was evacuated to Orgrimmar along with many other trolls. Whilst in the city I learned for the first time of the troll roof stalkers that patrol the rooftops and turrets. Years later, when I began my training as a scout, I dreamed that one day I would become one of those elite guards. The trolls who guided my training, Shenthul and Zando'zan, were happy to teach me ...

This got me wondering, what are the troll's habits concerning partners, marriage and such things? Someone told me that they mate for life, once they found the one they love they never leave them again. Might just be a rumour, but I like the sound of it. But from what they have told me, and from what little I learned from Warlord Snicka about his experiences on Zandalar before he went missing, I have gathered quite a few notes about the Zandalari.

I present these notes here in the hope that they will help us all to get a better understanding of the true heritage of the trolls, a heritage that the Zandalar ...

Following on from a discussion in the 'Troll Rituals and Ceremonies' thread, and to try to avoid any confusion when we talk about days of the week, I offer the following.

In recent years the Darkspear trolls have probably had to adjust their own traditional ways of recording times and seasons, to fit in more easily with the orcs and tauren with whom they interact every day. To account for this, I propose we use a simple numerical system, with moon-day as the first day of the troll week.

I Hope this helps OOC wise.

Here is everything that I learned from the elders and from my troll sistas in Sen'jin about the traditional dance of the troll women . . .

Raks'bala

The traditional dance performed by female trolls has many names, the most common one is 'raks'bala'. The old Zandali word 'raks' means protect, guard or save. The word 'bala' may come from old Zandali words meaning either strength or child.

The exact origin of this dance is uncertain. Many believe that it was originally a religious ...

Here is everything I learned from the elders about the traditional dance of the troll men . . .

Kupara

The traditional dance performed by male trolls is a form of dance called 'kupara'. This is an old Zandali word that means 'provoking a foe'.

In ancient times kupara was a ritual dance performed by warriors before a battle. The ritual proclaimed their strength and skill in combat, and called on the spirits, especially Ogoun, the Loa of War, to aid them. Kupara would usually be ...

Beth'ekk's Challenge

I study the ways of Beth’ekk the Panther God, Hunter of the Dusk and Dawn, and I practise her skills as a stealthy killer. I was reminded recently that she is also Beth’ekk the Wise, most learned of the Elder Loa. So, to honour her spirit, I will set a challenge for my fellow guild members that will test your knowledge of troll lore.

The first troll in our guild who replies to this message with the correct answers to three questions will be awarded a prize: a cunningly constructed Ornate ...

The following extract is from the recently published work of the head biologist from the Stormwind Academy, Herb Malfred, Animal and Humanoid Life on Azeroth and Draenor. Malfred's book is divided into ten volumes; the chapter about trolls is in the last one. It's one of the most objective biological description of trolls.

Trolls (Trollus zandalari) are one of the most ancient and most diverse sapient species in Azeroth with many primitive characteristics. The earliest documents about them ...

If you're making up a backstory for your character, you might be interested in the official Warcraft timeline:

According to this, the present year is 26. The most important events concerning trolls are the following:

6: The Second War. Zul'jin and his forces make an attempt to take their ancient lands back from the blood elves. They get support from the Horde, but they fail.

This subject was mentioned at a recent guild meeting. Zanick's mother, who was a weaver and knew a lot about the symbolism of colours, taught her the folklore concerning the colour of a troll's hair.

Many trolls believe that the colour of a troll's hair reveals the true nature and strength of their personality. For Jungle Trolls the ten natural hair colours and their meanings are as follows:

Colour - Colour name - Personality - Strength

Dark grey - DU'MA - Honourable - Friendship
